What do 'clicks' and 'impressions' mean in my numbers?

These are the words on your Site Performance page, near the top of the left menu. Here's what each one means in plain terms.

  • Impression — one time your site showed up in someone's Google results. They may not have even noticed it.
  • Click — someone actually clicked through to your site from Google.
  • Position — roughly where on the page you appeared. A lower number means higher up.

So "1,000 impressions, 30 clicks" means you showed up a thousand times and 30 people came to your site.

Lots of impressions but few clicks often points to one thing. Your Google title and description could work harder to make people want to click.

Why this matters

Once these words make sense, your numbers stop being a puzzle. You can see whether people find you and whether they choose to come in.
