Open Google Profile in the left menu, then click Map Rankings. On some accounts this tool sits under Advanced and is called Rank Tracker instead.
It checks a grid of spots across the area you serve. For a search you pick, like "water heater repair," it shows where your business lands on Google Maps at each spot.
Why a grid? Because your ranking changes street by street. You might be number one downtown and nowhere across town.
Here's how to read it:
- Green spots and low numbers mean you show up high there.
- Red spots and high numbers mean you're buried on that street.
- "Who's beating you" shows which competitors rank ahead of you.
It also tracks how your rankings move over time, so you can see if things are getting better.
If you don't see Google Profile on the left, that section hasn't been turned on for you. The support team can switch it on.
Why this matters
The map is where people find local trades. Seeing exactly where you're weak tells you which streets and searches to work on.
