I don't have a Google listing at all. How do I get one?

A Google listing is free, and you make it directly with Google. No one can be paid to skip that step, so make it yourself.

  1. Go to google.com/business.
  2. Sign in with a Google account.
  3. Enter your business name.
  4. Enter your address, or your service area if you go to the customer.
  5. Enter your phone and your category.

Then Google checks that you're real. Often that's a postcard mailed to your address with a code. Sometimes it's a phone call or a video.

Once you're verified, your listing appears on Google Maps.

After that, put your website's address on the listing. The connection to your site follows from there — see "How do I connect my Google listing?" below.

Worth doing early. The postcard alone can take a week or two to arrive.

Why this matters

Without a listing, you don't show up on the map at all. Getting it started now means it's ready when customers are searching for you.
