A redirect forwards an old web address to a new one. That way a saved link or bookmark doesn't land on a dead page.
You'll find this in the Advanced section. The Advanced section in the left menu starts closed, so click the word Advanced to open it, then click Redirects.
You need a redirect when you:
- Removed a service page.
- Renamed a page's web address.
- Moved from an old website. Old-site addresses can be migrated for you automatically.
To set one up, enter the old web address ending and the new destination. There are two technical choices next to it, each with a "?" hint: permanent or temporary, and exact match or starts-with. Permanent and exact are the usual picks.
The tab also has a test tool. Type an address, and it shows you where that address would land.
Most owners never need this tab. The support team sets these up on request.
Why this matters
When a page moves, old links can leave a customer staring at an error. A redirect quietly sends them to the right place instead.
